Mike Trout had one of the greatest statistical seasons in MLB history in 2012, Barton .326 hitting 30 Homeruns and 49 stolen bases at age 21. What makes these feats even more impressive is Trout was not called up until late April. The new salary Trout has is a one year deal worth $510,000 , that's $20,000 more than the league minimum. Trout's agent, Craig' Landis chimed in, saying that this contract was unfair based on Trout's salary.
Trout's rookie résumé consists of being voted an All-Star, unanimous Rookie of the Year, and runner up for AL- MVP to the triple crown winner, once again all accomplished at age 21. However, I feel the Los Angeles Angels are making the right call here. As much raw talent as Trout has, it was one year. Give him too much money, and he may lose his concentration on the field. He plays in LA and lives in LA a young kid, with all that money and publicity could ruin his game and career if he doesn't take care of himself. If Trout comes out and has an equal or better year, then pay the kid. For now, make him earn the money and prove he is worth the investment.
