The Wild World of College Hoops

Who wants to be the best in the nation, and stay the best? anyone? anyone? Beuller?... Another night of college hoops has gone by and another wooping of a top ranked team has occurred. After Tuesday night where the nation witnessed Indiana fall to Minnesota, on the same day as Florida fell to Tennessee, all fans are reminded how even the playing field is this year. Rewind to the Indiana game, where the Hoosiers were possessing the #1 ranking in the nation, and was starting to get talks as the favorite team in the big dance in March, but Minnesota, a hungry team on the bubble reminded us what type of year this is in college hoops, handing the Hoosiers a 77- 73 loss. As for #7 ranked Florida? Billy Donovan & Co. couldn't fend off the in conference rival Tennessee Volunteers who came out on top 64-58. And if you want to throw in Number 19 Memphis losing to Xavier 64-62 on the same you can add that as well. Fast Forward to Wednesday where #4 Michigan traveled to Happy Valley Pennsylvania to take on their rival Penn State Nittany Lions, if you even want to call it a basketball rivalry. With Indiana falling this was Michigan's night to climb back to the top, all they had to beat was a dismal Penn State team, and close out the season at home where they haven't lost in almost two years. BUT never take the 9-18, 0-14 in conference Nittany Lions lightly... wait.. what? 0-14? Well that doesn't mean shit now because they are 1-14 and defeated the big blue. Michigan was hot offensively with 4 starters scoring in double figures, but there was no life off the bench, who between four players, scored ten points. However, give credit where credit is due, PSU showed up and put up, lead by Jermaine Marshall's 25 points, and D.J Newbill's 17 points. It almost seems normal that this upset occurred with the way the season has gone. With another shake up of the top 25 poll, look for the Zags to take their first #1 ranking in program history, followed by Duke at 2, the U at 3, Georgetown at 4, and Kansas topping off at 5. Oh yeah and by the way.... #11 Arizona lost to USC today, 89-78. Still thinking about putting money on your brackets? think again.
