The Buss stops in LA

Tonight, before the tip off of Wednesday night NBA basketball between the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics, a tribute to Gerald Hatten "Jerry" Buss was conducted. A better game could not be played the night of the tribute to the late great, Jerry Buss, who during his 34 years of ownership of the Lakers, gave life to the West vs. East rivalry of the two historic franchises. During his years of ownership, Buss' teams won 10 NBA championships, with players such as, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, James Worthy, Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant. Buss was hospitalized in 2012 for an undisclosed intestinal problem, which was revealed to be cancer on February 14, 2013. At 5:55 A.M on February 18, 2013, Buss lost his battle with cancer at age 80. Controlling ownership was passed on to his six children via a trust managed by his sons Johnny and Jim, and daughter Jeanie. Current NBA commissioner David Stern is quoted saying about Buss "The NBA has lost a visionary owner whose influence on our league is incalculable and will be felt for decades to come".
