Seton Hall over Nova in impressive fashion

What makes a Seton Hall win over Villanova significant? An upset? no. One of the teams on the bubble? No. The worst season in 29 years having a silver lining? Yes. Seton Hall was cradling a 9 game losing streak, a roster halfway on the injured reserve, and a recently released article criticizing head coach Kevin Willard's recruiting skills. Well one recruit, left over from the great Gonzo, Fuquan Edwin, allowed all Pirate fans to forget about that. The Seton Hall Pirates have been having a season to forget, starting big man Patrick Auda lost for the season to a broken foot, a season total of 440 turnovers, yes that is 440, not a typo. Along with no true point guard, Freshman Tom Maayan from Israel has been afraid to do anything associated with putting the ball in the peach basket all season. Seton Hall has been sitting in 14th place in the conference consisting of 15 teams, and Monday night didn't seem to be any different. Tonight, the Pirates shot 61.9% from behind the 3 pt line, with three starters putting up 12 points or more. This was not a walk in the park however, with the game coming down to last minute heroics by Maayan and Edwin. The hot hand of Aaron Cosby kept the Pirates in the game all night, shooting 3 for 4 behind the arc, and boasting 21 points. but in the final 20 seconds of the game, a brilliant call by coach Willard kept the pirates in the game. with Nova up 65-63, instead of instant intentional fouling, Willard called a double team on the ball, waiting for the first pass, this is a call where the players need to step up however. Maayan stripped the ball with less than 15 seconds remaining, dished it to Edwin who had the smarts to step behind the 3 pt line, and drained the shot to put the Hall up 66-65 with 10 seconds left. A win that fans, students, alumni, players, and head coach needed to break the tension of this season. SHU has no shot at making the big dance in March, but moments like these remind everyone that the team has a pulse, and that next year, give Willard another chance.
