I blogged not too long ago that I thought the Mets should snag Bourn as I thought he was the best free agent available and would give them great outfield help and depth, and bring an All-Star to a below average lineup. Well, scratch that idea because it seems like Bourn has agreed to a deal with the Cleveland Indians. The Mets made an offer similar to the Indians but Bourn chose Cleveland. Honestly I wouldn't take Cleveland too lightly this year...I know sounds weird but Francona is the new manager and a proven winner. They picked up Swisher and Bourn in free agency and the Indians looked real good early last year but then fell off. Cabrera, Bourn, Swisher, Santana, Aviles, Kipnis, Reynolds, Brantley and Stubbs is a pretty formidable starting lineup. Pretty good defensively and the lineup is well rounded. But their obviously problem is pitching. Their rotation has some proven veterans and young arms but have yet to put it all together...will be interesting to watch. Anyway Bourn reportedly signed a 4 year deal for $48 million. Great pickup for the Indians and just adds to the storylines to keep an eye on for this upcoming season. Baseball is almost here!!
